A corporate campaign of the network “Initiative Mittel- und Osteuropa” and MitOst e.V.
On 1 May 2004,
large parts of Eastern and Western Europe became united for the first time
as the EU expands to 25 Member States.
With the balloon air race we wanted to welcome our new old neighbours. The
contest started in Berlin whilst the official opening of the public festival
at the >Pariser Platz< on April 30th around 1p.m.
We - that are young initiatives, promoting a vital exchange between Middle
and East Europe, connected in the network “Initiative Mittel- und
Osteuropa”.
For that the balloons of OST-WIND shall raise attention to this region and
promoting the work of that network.
The participating associations are trying to help out with information of,
backgrounds to and experiences with the Middle and East European countries.
They are offering space for discussions about questions of cross-cultural
cooperation, supporting socio-political involvement, procuring direct contacts
on an un-political level.
They are helping obtaining fellowships for people from the Middle and East
European countries, campaigning for democratic structures in the universities
and are a counterpart for study paths dealing with that region.
Beside the balloon competition there was an information booth, showing up
with the aims and multilateral work of the associations. At this place we
tried to get into contact with the visitors of the public festival to show
them the importance of our honorary engagement and last not least take a
crack at giving understanding about the new members of the European Union.
